Sona Product Reviews

Now you're getting serious…

The design of active stage amplifiers and PA systems has just taken another step forward. Introducing two new technologies - fan cooling, and lightweight cabinet construction. Combined, they make it possible to bring you performance even better than before.

First, about fan cooling. Professional quality audio amplifiers make a lot of heat. There’s no getting around that. So, in order to give them higher power and maintain our super high reliability record at the same time, we developed a way to keep them cool. While big finned heat sinks look great, they are actually much better at making people feel good than they are at cooling electronics. Nothing beats a steady stream of air on hot components to cool them down. There’s nothing really new about the idea. The computer you’re using right now has fans running inside of it to cool the power supply and the processor.

What is unique is the way we put that good idea to work inside an active speaker cabinet, without affecting the sound or making extra noise. That is something new, and it works so well that you have to put your ear right up to the speaker to hear the fan running inside. In fact, we’ve tested units with the new technology, and while everyone is blown away with the sound, no one even notices the fans - they’re that quiet.

The second is our lightweight cabinet construction. We understand that you have enough to do without toting big, heavy sound systems around town. We wanted to do something about that. There are ways to build light structures using exotic materials and techniques, but we wanted to design something simpler to avoid a big increase in our prices. So we invented a way to fabricate lightweight panels that are less than half the weight of wood or particleboard. They are as strong and rigid as heavy wood panels, and the acoustic qualities are even a little better, but they are very lightweight.

The next step was to design a rugged cabinet structure, using the lightweight panels, which would withstand the stresses put on them by an active musician or DJ. Our extensive field-testing shows the new design is up to that task. The lighter weight makes them a lot easier to handle and set up, and the sound is just as clean and smooth as ever.

Our lightweight construction and fan cooling technologies are patent pending. All rights reserved.

"Great sound, with volume to spare…"

"…really comes through in terms of sound quality and volume."

"…smoothly covers the audio bandwidth, at volumes ranging from whisper-quiet to the threshold of pain."

Electronic Musician

"…the sound thrusts out with the clarity of a $500 set of headphones."

"…what you get is fabulous.  This amp purely and simply sounds like a million bucks."

 "…gloriously crisp, clean sound…"

Gig Magazine

I was totally thrilled.

I was unable to distort the amp at any humanly listenable volume, even when accompanying a bashing drummer with a double-digit quantity of tom-toms.

generic patches [were] very warm, and [free] from that digital screeching

Just about any tinny acoustic piano sample can be transformed by this amp into something warm and usable.

… the 41 is a killer.  I want one.
